USELESS NUMBERS, IMPORTANT PEOPLE

I have always been able to remember birthdates and phone numbers really well, however, this included numbers and dates that are now irrelevant, either because they have been updated, or because I no longer speak to or engage with the particular person the numbers pertain to. I’m interested as to why our brains hold onto particular pieces of information, and I was specifically interested in how I could make these numbers and dates mean and look like nothing because even though their form gives them context, their purpose is now gone. The work I created in response to this investigation takes remembered numbers, birthdates, and the associated person, and breaks them down into how many 1’s, 2’s, a’s and b’s, etc, there are, and collates the information. Each still shot highlights these numbers and letters in sequential order, thus making them meaningless.
